What They Say
After Jon wrote up his views on the Dell 34″ QD-OLED (34 inches at 175 Hz—See More Faster with Alienware QD-OLED Gaming Monitor) yesterday, I noticed that Samsung Electronics had put out an infographic about its Odyssey OLED G8 monitor, which uses the same panel.
What We Think
Given concerns about image sticking in PC applications using OLED-based technology, it’s interesting to note that Samsung gives a three year warranty on this monitor. The infographic provoked me into looking around at what is happening on pricing and availability here in the UK. The Samsung is being offered by the firm at £1299 ($1297 + tax) while the Dell is listing at £1099 ($1097 + tax). The Dell seems only to be available to purchase from Dell’s own store, but is out of stock and the Samsung seems also to be in short supply and out of stock at the moment. I thought that Currys had been selling it cheaper than the SRP, but today the price is 1 £ above the SRP!
It seemed slightly bizarre that that the 34″ monitor is selling for more than Samsung’s 55″ QD OLED TV. I went to get a screenshot from my favourite local discounter, Richer Sounds. Strangely, the price today for the Samsung 55″ QD-OLED is noticeably higher than it was last weekend – although it is still claimed as the ‘best price ever’. Below are my captures from the adverts last weekend (left) and today (right). I suspect the lower price was a mistake over the holiday weekend. (BR)
