The Elec reported data from UBI Research on mid- to large-sized OLED sales. Although published in Korean on the UBI website, it was not yet in English when we checked.
UBI said that sales of middle to large sized OLED panels (10″+) in the first quarter of 2021 surged 156% from 2020 to $1.45 billion. In terms of units, TV panels reached 1.6 million and notebook panels hit 1.1 million.
Shipment of smaller OLED panels reached 140 million during the quarter, up 32.4% from 2020, but down 13.5% from Q4. Samsung had 79% of the market ahead of 11.3% for LG Display.
What We Think
UBI is confident that Samsung has convinced brands that its notebook OLEDs will not suffer from image retention. It will be interesting to see if problems start to surface. (BR)
