According to Juniper Research, more than 12 million consumer smart glasses will be shipped in 2020, compared to less than 1 million this year.
The market is about 15 months behind expectations, says Juniper, due to the withdrawal of Google Glass last year. However, the market should pick up in 2017, thanks to the launch of Microsoft’s Hololens, as well as other devices from vendors such as Sony and ODG.
Home-based use cases are believed to be the key to consumer adoption – rather than the out-of-home use promoted by Google Glass.
Juniper has published both a whitepaper (http://tinyurl.com/gsrnqwt) and paid research (http://tinyurl.com/hkzr8vs) on this topic.
