Microsoft has confirmed that it is to close the Salo handset production unit in Finland, as part of the swingeing round of job cuts announced in July (Microsoft to Cut 7,500 Jobs).
The Salo plant was previously part of Nokia’s operations and was taken over by Microsoft when it acquired Nokia’s devices and services business. According to reports, closing the Salo plant will result in the loss of 2,300 jobs, though the remaining Finnish facilities in Espoo and Tampere will continue to operate.
