During IMID 2023 held in Busan, Merck Korea, a branch of the German chemicals company Merck, presented the Merck Award. This award celebrates its 20th year in 2023 and honors significant scientific contributions to display technology.
Professor Jeong Jae-kyeong1 from Hanyang University secured the top accolade, the Merck Award. His notable accomplishments include: research on oxide semiconductor technology, major contributions to mass-producing AMOLED products, and creation of the world’s first 12.1-inch WXGA AMOLED notebook utilizing oxide TFTs.
The Merck Young Scientist award was given to Professor Kwak Jeong-hun2 from Seoul National University for his advancements in QLEDs. He introduced an inverted QLED structure, which substantially enhances the efficiency and lifespan of QLEDs.
Merck Korea also hosted the 5th Merck Science Connect, a seminar attended by leading experts from the display industry. The theme of this session was “Go beyond limits in AR/VR.” Four experts, including the Merck Award winner Professor Jeong, were set to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the display industry.
