What They Say
Mercedes has released some information about its 2022 EQE-350 EV which is available with two different display configurations. The first uses the MBUX Hyperscreen design (Auto OLEDs Arrive but LCDs Have a Special Place) while a lower specification version uses a 12.8″ portrait orientation centre console, with touch. The 12.8″ display seems to be the same as was used in the 2021 Mercedes S Class.
What We Think
My own experience of negotiating with automotive companies about components, although a long time ago, shows that they not only want the best materials and components, but they also want a very good commercial deal. That makes it a challenge to introduce technologies such as OLED, even when the challenges of qualification have been overcome. Further, you really have to work hard to set up to be an automotive supplier with issues such as long term supply stability ensured. (BR)
