Florian Friedrich of FF Pictures made a 10 minute YouTube video to explain the difference between mastering monitors and TVs as well as covering the basics of miniLED, OLED and dual panel LCDs. As you would expect from an ICDM committee chair (and a friend of Display Daily), the explanation is very good.
What We Think
Friedrich has long been a very strong advocate of dynamic metadata and he explains the importance of HDR10+ or Dolby Vision and some of the differences. He highlighted that a really good TV may have less need of dynamic metadata, while a more limited one really does. The video doesn’t cover anything that hasn’t been heard elsewhere, but for someone new to the industry or a consumer looking to choose a set, it is a really useful resource. (BR)
