Israel’s Mantis Vision has worked with Flextronics to develop a tablet specifically designed to create content in 3D: the Aquila. The 8″ tablet uses Mantis Vision’s MV4D core 3D engine and camera control SDK. Depth-sensing components are built in to enable 3D data acquisition. Depth maps can be created using the tablet’s 13MP main camera, an IR camera and projector combination, enabled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. Content captured can then be used in interactive 3D scenes. A developer kit is available now, for $925, with delivery scheduled for the end of the year. The technology will arrive on other devices by early 2015.
