Fraunhofer IIS, developer of the xHE-AAC and MPEG-H Audio codecs, has partnered with MainConcept, a leading provider of video and audio codecs, plugins, and applications. MainConcept’s Live Encoder and FFmpeg Plugins now support Fraunhofer’s industry-leading MPEG-H Audio and xHE-AAC software encoders, providing significant benefits to providers, particularly for live streaming sports events and concerts with immersive audio that can be personalized by the audience.
Many service providers rely on FFmpeg for their ingest and encoding frameworks. MainConcept’s FFmpeg plugin for MPEG-H Audio offers easy integration into existing workflows, enabling encoding and streaming of content with personalized and immersive audio. The MainConcept Live Encoder now includes MPEG-H Audio, simplifying broadcast and OTT video workflows with multiscreen delivery from common input sources in real time.
This partnership offers higher audiovisual quality and performance standards for users, while meeting future broadcast infrastructure requirements like Brazil’s next-generation broadcast system (TV 3.0) that requires VVC together with MPEG-H Audio, with deployment expected to start in 2025.
