Macroblock is reckoned to be the biggest supplier of LED driver chips for video displays (and the second largest maker of all LED drivers) and is based in Taiwan. The LEDInside blog reports that the firm expects to see a boost to sales, which is because Samsung is said to have adopted the firm’s chips in its LED Cinema product.
The company is also optimistic about micro and mini-LED applications and has the MBI5359 which can support pitches down to 0.55mm with constant current driving down to 15μA and the chips have features that are typically in bigger chips such as dead pixel detection and LED failure prediction.
The firm expects mini-LED backlights to start shipping in the first half of 2019 with microLED display products arriving in the second half of 2019.
