Luxottica Agrees to Continue Glass Development

Rumours of Google Glass’s demise (Google Glass is Off The Shelves For Now) have been greatly exaggerated – at least, if news from Italy is anything to go by.

Italian firm Luxottica has signed a partnership deal with Google, to design, develop and distribute ‘a new breed’ of eyewear for Google. A team – consisting of employees from both firms – will be put together to work on the product. Eyewear brands Ray-ban and Oakley are owned by Luxottica and will be part of the collaboration.

Massimo Vian, CEO of Luxottica, told shareholders, “In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version 3 [of the eyewear]… What you saw [in 2014] was version 1. We’re now working on version 2, which is in preparation”.

Details about the timing of any future product launches were not shared.
