What They Say
At the virtual CES, LG Electronics sneaked a peek at its rollable smartphone. The display rolls out to 7.4″ with a resolution reported to be 2428 x 1080 (although that is around 20:9 aspect ratio which is wide, while in rolled out mode the phone is relatively square, so this is probably just when it is rolled up). It is said to use a Snapdragon 999 with 16GB of RAM and a 4,200 mAh battery. Pricing is likely to be $2,359 and shipment around March according to rumours.
What We Think
I do like the rollable concept, also shown by TCL at the virtual show. The mechanism would have to be quite robust and that may make it difficult to make it light or cheap. We’re in the realms of the classic ‘trilemma’ – light, cheap and strong – choose any two! (BR)
