What They Say
LG Display put out a press release that said that it has improved its OLED technology which it is boosted in brightness by ‘up to 30%’ by using deuterium to improve the stability and efficiency of the OLED material. The firm said it is extracting deuterium from water and uses it to replace hydrogen in the material.
The firm also said that it is using AI and machine learning to optimise the image quality for individual viewers and their viewing patterns.
Another development is a reduction in the width of bezels from around 6mm to 4mm in a 65″ panel.
What We Think
The key advantage of the modified material seems to be to allow a longer lifetime at a higher brightness for the OLED emitter. I found an article on the topic of deuterium and the extension of the lifetime of OLEDs, but I confess that the chemistry is beyond my level of knowledge. No doubt, we’ll be able to dig out more shortly. (BR)
