LG Display to supply LTPO OLED for iPhone 14

What They Say

Just before the holiday, The Elec in Korea reported that Apple has placed a small PO with LG Display for the supply of LTPO OLEDs for the iPhones to be launched next year, specifically the 6.68″ iPhone 14 Pro Max while Samsung (SDC) will be the sole supplier for the 6.06″ iPhone 14 Pro. This is a change from the iPhone 13, where LGD did not win any LTPO orders, the paper said.

The report said that LGD uses parts of its AP4 line at its P9 factory in Paju, South Korea for the LTPO TFT process. The panel-in-production is then moved to the E6 line where it deposits the organic material to complete the LTPO TFT OLED panel.

What We Think

The Elec made the point that this order keeps LGD ahead of BOE which is still developing LTPO technology, although it has supplied LTPS OLEDs.

Separately, GizChina reported that Visionox has developed LTPO. It also reported that Visionox has shipped 5 million OLEDs to Huawei and 10 million to Honor. (BR)
