What They Say
HankookI in Korea reports that LG Display is looking to push the size range of its WOLED panels further down to 27″ diagonal from as early as next month to support smaller TVs and monitor applications. The site said that LG Electronics will develop a gaming monitor based on the that panel and possibly a 32″ as well. At the moment, LGE has OLED monitors aimed at content creators based on panels from JOLED in those sizes.
What We Think
Given the flat sales of OLED TVs this year (LG Display looks unlikely to beat the 7.8 million panel shipments of last year), it’s not surprising to see the firm look for new markets. LG must have got more comfortable with the potential lifetime issues of OLEDs in monitors. After all, game players tend to use their displays heavily, although not, of course, typically with the all-white displays of Windows or text work. (BR)
