What They Say
LG Display said that it has seen a big boost in 77″ or larger OLED panel demand over the last couple of years. Quoting a report in the Korean Press the firm’s blog highlighted that the share of large sizes has gone up from 6.3% in 2019 to 13.7% in 2020 and 17.8% in the first half of this year. The firm also quoted the share of the 40″ range growing from 3.6% last year to 8.1% in the first half of this year.
Data from Omdia puts the share of TVs in the US market at 70″ and above at 17.9% in Q2 of this year, up from 13% a year ago, LG said.
What We Think
My Korean is not good enough to work out the source of this data from the image below, but if LG Display is reproducing it, it’s reasonable to assume that it is not a long way from the truth. 77″ sets are significantly more expensive than 55″ and 65″ so the increase in larger sets must be helping LG’s revenue.
