What They Say
Hat-tip to sixteen-nine.net for spotting an announcement by LG Business Solutions USA of new high brightness displays for applications in bright environments (but we couldn’t find a press release on LG’s US or Global sites). Full details were on a couple of blogs.
There are three (49″, 55″ and 75″) displays with 4,000cd/m² and a 21.5″ 1080P 1,500cd/m² outside display with an IP65 rating. The 75″ is the first 4,000cd/m² UltraHD display from LGE. Dan Smith, VP of business development, LG Business Solutions USA said
“They are (also) designed to quickly dissipate heat produced by direct sunlight that can damage less-specialized displays”.
The displays have quarter wave plate technology to allow clear visibility when viewed through polarised sunglasses. The 49-inch (model 49XS4J-B), 55-inch (model 55XS4J-B) and 75-inch (model 75XS4G-B) displays can be oriented either horizontally or vertically and include the webOS 4.1 smart signage platform.
For multidisplay installations, one display can be set as the “master” to control brightness for multiple units, allowing all to exhibit the same brightness even when one display’s light sensor is blocked, but the others are not.
The XS4 displays offer enhanced environmental protection including a conformal coating that helps prevent water vapor and dust from affecting the electronics inside the display.
Every XS4 display features a 600mm x 400mm VESA-compliant mount interface, the ability to attach a second display of varying size to face inside a store and comes backed by a three-year limited warranty.
What We Think
By chance, I was discussing large displays with FullHD recently. I said that I would be surprised to see many (or any) FullHD LCD panels above 55″ and judging by the UltraHD on the 75″ that is becoming a reality. The use of a QWP typically is used to convert linear polarisation to circular. (BR)
