Lenovo Shows Foldable Notebook Concept

At an event in New York, Lenovo showed a foldable notebook concept. This is just a concept and only exists as a rendering, not a prototype and Lenovo also said only that the machine would be made of ‘advanced materials’ and use ‘new screen technologies. There is no obvious trackpad, although of course, Lenovo still puts the mini-joystick in the middle of the keyboard in its professional machines. Some have suggested that mouse input would be by voice, but that seem’s unlikely to us. The screen would be usable with pen/stylus.

Lenovo has given no idea of a likely development time.

Analyst Comment

This is an intriguing idea and looks, relatively, feasible, although nobody has shown a flexible display of this size, yet, as far as we know. The lower weight and thickness should be an advantage and having a rolling rather than creased display should not be a problem, we would think. The main advantage, though would be to have more resolution and display space. The advantage in a notebook is that the battery and other components would not have to be flexible – only the display needs to be flexible. (BR)
