Lenovo Announces the First Arm-based ThinkPad & Boost USB-C Monitor

What They Say

Lenovo has announced its first ThinkPad-branded notebook based on an Arm processor from Qualcomm. The Thinkpad X13s is said to have 28 hours of battery life (49.5WHr battery) for video playback and the 2.35 lbs (1.066kg) and is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor with support for 5G and 4G. The display has a 16:10 aspect ratio with 1920 x 1200 resolution and that will be the ratio for all ThinkPads going forward, apart from the L series.

It will ship ‘later in the year’ and will cost $1,099.

Security facilities and durability are a match for Intel-based systems, according to ArsTechnica and performance should be ‘in line with an Intel Core i5 CPU’.

There are also new Intel- and AMD-based refreshes with large displays moving up from 15.6″ to 16″ with resolutions up to 3840 x 2400 (16:10 again) on the X1 Extreme Gen 5.

The T series is also refreshed and goes up to 3840 x 2400 when AMD powered, but limited to 2560×1600 for the Intel models. Again, the will go up to 16″ and will be available from June.

The firm also announced a new 14″ ThinkVision M14d mobile monitor that will 2240 x 1400 (16:10) resolution with an IPS panel and can run via USB-C as well as acting as a USB hub.Contrast of the IPS panel is quoted at 1,500:1. It will cost $299 and be available in July.

What We Think

It’s good to see a boots in the resolution of the add-on monitor. $299 is not much for the extra boost in productivity that a second display can bring when travelling. (BR)
