Lenovo Can’t Dodge 2-in-1 Hinge Case

What They Say

Law360 reported that Lenovo can’t dodge a putative class action claiming it sold defective two-in-one computer devices, a Maryland federal judge has ruled, saying the company’s assertions that the devices are good for 25,000 “open-close cycles” is specific enough for consumers to pursue claims of fraudulent concealment.

What We Think

This class action is based on issues with the Yoga devices and defects from the eDP cable between the keyboard and display through the laptop hinge. The class action claims that Lenovo did not fix the problem properly. It’s no news that hinges and their connections are a potential weak point. I always buy an extended warranty for my notebooks. Ten or more years ago, I had a Portege notebook with a three year warranty. Just a couple of months before the end of the period, the hinge failed. After some dispute, Toshiba accepted that it was a warranty fault, but couldn’t supply a replacement, so they supplied me a completely new notebook. 🙂 (BR)
