LedCon Moves Pitch for Rental Down

LedCon, which is based in Germany, and is a regular exhibitor at the event was showing its modular Unano system which is optimised for rental, but has a pixel pitch of 1.8mm. In the past, rental systems have tended to be at 2.5mm or more, because smaller pitch modules tend to be too fragile and the arrival of 1.8mm is being welcomed. As we discussed with several companies at ProLight & Sound, there is an increasing demand for better and better quality in live presentations, driven partly by the better displays that customers are getting used to. There is also a desire to support FullHD without displays being too big.

The Unano system uses 424 x 498mm cabinets based and each has 240 x 270 resolution with brightness of 1,000 cd/m² maximum. The controller is from Novastar (for whom, Ledcon is a distributor) and the cabinets are rated to IP32, Weight per panel is 8.5kg and the units can be curved at up to 5º. Power consumption is typically 300 W/m², with a maximum of 900W/m².

The company told us that it believes the fixed installation market is growing more quickly than rental which is growing, but at a steady pace.
