What They Say
The IT Chosun reported an interview with Oh Chang-ho of LG Display who said that miniLED TVs are bad for eye health compared to OLEDs. However, he welcomed the introduction of QD OLED by Samsung. The topic of panel supply to Samsung Electronics was raised, but the retort was:
“It is a problem that cannot be mentioned in relation to the customer and will be resolved naturally over time.” It is not yet at the stage where I can tell you.”
He also said that the challenge with adding deuterium to its OLEDs (LG Display Claims 30% Boost in OLEDs from Deuterium) was in getting an established supply chain. The material is expensive, but he said that savings had been made elsewhere to offset it.
What We Think
Given that LG Electronics is introducing miniLED displays, raising the spectre of a conflict with the set maker. In the longer term it would be surprising if LG Display didn’t supply the technology (and does, if you use Samsung’s definition of LED TV). Raising safety issues can come back to bite you in these days of mass media and litigious lawyers. (BR)
