Large-Area TFT LCD Notebook PC Display Shipments are Set to Hit 229 Million Shipments in 2021

The large-area TFT LCD notebook PC display shipments are set to hit 229million shipments in 2021, a 7% increase YoY according to Omdia’s latest forecasts. TFT LCD monitor display shipment will hit 173 million with 9% YoY growth in 2021. The latest forecast comes from Omdia’s latest ‘Large Area Display Market Tracker’

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an unexpected surge in demand for large area displays, particularly for IT applications. The strong demands are rising from an increase in remote workers as well as on-line education. These demands have driven higher IT display shipments in 2020.

Chinese panel makers will increase their shares for large area TFT LCD IT display shipments from 37% to 43% in 2021 with 25% YoY shipments growth.

China and Taiwan expect to take 37% share of total large-area TFT LCD Notebook PC and monitor display shipments in 2020 respectively. However, due to the aggressive shipment plan from Chinese panel makers next year, China expects to take 43% share of it with 25% YoY growth while Taiwan panel makers take 37% share with 7% YoY growth in 2021.

Particularly it is forecast Chinese panel makers are increasing monitor display shipments significantly from 60.5 Million to 91.4 Million in 2021 with 51% YoY. As a result, it is expected that China will take 53% share of total large-area TFT LCD monitor display shipments in 2021. China Star an HKC Display will lead the monitor display shipment growth. China Star will utilize Samsung Suzhou LCD fab what the company has acquired for monitor display productions and HKC Display is increasing monitor display production at their new Gen8.6 H4 fab.

Latest industry observation indicates IT display demands continuously remain strong for the time being. Demands from new semester in schools and remote works expansion under the continuous COVID-19 pandemic drives strong demands in the first half of 2021.
