The Elec reported that Kolon Industries said that it had supplied its colourless polyimide (CPI) film to Xiaomi to be used in the Mi Mix Fold smartphone and that target sales for the handset are half a million. The firm is the exclusive supplier of CPI and also supplies Huawei and Motorola. Oppo is said to be planning to use the film.
The CPI film is used in the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold notebook and the report says that Lenovo is working on a successor product.
Kolon is quoted as saying that it expects a CAGR of 60% going forward.
What We Think
The real competitor at the moment for Kolon’s CPI material is the Ultra-thin Glass (UTG) from Schott at the moment and from others in the future. (BR)
