Keepixo, a leading provider of software-based headend solutions for IP-based video delivery, today announced that its Genova Software suite for OTT has been fully optimized to run on the graphics-enabled Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1500 v5 product family. Keepixo’s software suite takes advantage of Intel® Quick Sync Video, which uses the dedicated media processing capabilities of Intel® Graphics Technology to speed video transcoding.
As a result, the company’s Genova Software is able to increase video transcoding density for HEVC while minimizing power consumption per transcoded service.
Keepixo, as an early adopter of Intel® Quick Sync Video, has been using this hardware-assisted video encoding and decoding technology for over 4 years. The latest generation of Intel® Quick Sync Video, available on the new Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1500 v5 product family, provides significant video quality and density improvements and efficient acceleration for HEVC encoding with 50 percent more graphics execution units than previous generation graphics-enabled Intel CPUs[1].
Keepixo is now able to transcode up to 12 HEVC HD (1080P) channels per CPU which translates into 108 services per rack unit (RU) on suitable HW platforms such as Kontron SYMKLOUD platform. This unprecedented level of performance represents 70% higher density over H.264 while also improving the video quality.
Keepixo’s Genova Software suite is a cloud-ready, high-performance, and broadcast-quality software suite targeted at content and service providers. It includes all the components needed to build a multiscreen video workflow for OTT and IPTV services. Genova comprises a high-density, multi-rate H.264 and HEVC live encoder, file transcoder for VOD assets, and a multi-format OTT packager.
Intel® Quick Sync Video leverages the hardware-assisted graphics capabilities of select Intel® Xeon® CPUs to off-load computationally intensive tasks for both H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC). Keepixo’s Genova software suite makes use of media processing acceleration for low level encoding operations while keeping full control of high level tasks such as encoding strategy to achieve the highest video quality that is required for professional applications.
Jerome Blanc, COO of Keepixo, commented “Our collaboration with Intel allows us to meet our customers’ need for highly dense and power efficient transcoding platforms. By running our Genova transcoding software on new graphics-enabled Intel® Xeon® processors, we are able to increase platform density while offering a flexible and future-proof solution to support both H.264 and H.265 codecs.”
“The rapid growth of video traffic requires highly dense and power-efficient transcoding infrastructures that can transcode high-definition and ultra-high-definition video in real time,” said Jim Blakley, general manager, Visual Cloud Division at Intel. “Keepixo’s Genova Software is fully optimized to take advantage of the integrated, real-time Intel® Quick Sync video encoding acceleration available in the Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1500 v5 product family.”
