Kaleidescape launched a new line of video players known as the Encore series, including its first UltraHD model: the Strato Movie Player.
The Strato can play films that are downloaded onto a hard drive; either on the Strato itself (optional, 6TB), or on one of Kaleidescape’s new Terra Movie Servers. It is also able to play DVDs and Blu-rays, using a new disc server. UltraHD content is played at 60fps.
HDR content can be played on compatible displays. Lossless multichannel audio is also supported.
Other products in the Encore line include the movie and disc servers, above, and the Alto Movie Player. This player plays Blu-ray and DVD-quality films downloaded from the Kaleidescape store, via its own Blu-ray drive or using the disc server.
Kaleidescape announced a new licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment at the show. The company will be able to offer Sony UltraHD films for download from its own store. Each Strato player will be supplied with five downloadable films of the customer’s choice, as well. In addition, Kaleidescape customers can upgrade their previously-purchased SD and HD UltraViolet Sony titles to UltraHD, where available.
The Strato player will be launched in early Q1’16, for $4,500 (with 6TB HDD) or $3,500.
