What We Think
As I’ve previously reported, JVC has worked with NHK on 8K for years, with great demonstrations of 8K projection at IBC and elsewhere. 8K is really great for the large displays of big projectors when paired with compelling audio. The challenge for D-ILA, which is an LCOS technology, is the size of the chip that is needed. Larger chips also mean more difficulties with the optics in terms of étendue.
The alternative to a very big chip – which significantly increases cost because of the area but also because of the challenges in yield – is to shrink the pixel size and that also has huge challenges. (BR)
