What They Say
Joled of Japan said that it would start ‘mass production’ of printed OLED displays in the size range from 10″ to 32″ using the Oledio brand name. Applications will include high-end monitors, medical monitors and automotive displays.
The company said that it held an event to celebrate the start. It started the production line in 2017 and went into ‘trial production’ in 2019. It now plans to boost sales volumes.
What We Think
A few months ago, I wrote an article saying that ‘nobody is in mass production of inkjet printed OLEDs’ and one of my writers flagged up Joled, which has been making some OLEDs for Sony in medical monitors and a very few for Asus and Eizo for expensive monitors. “It depends what you mean by mass production” was my reply – and it seems that I was in accord with Joled’s definition! We reported from CES that LG Electronics was going to have a 27″ monitor based on a Joled panel, but it is still not yet available in stock. (BR)
