What They Say
Jade Bird Display put out information on its 0.13″ microdisplay and DSCC covered the topic in its blog, including information gained in an interview with the firm in August. The display is just VGA resolution (640 x 480) but has extremely high brightness of 0.2 million nits (cd/m²), 2 million nits, and 0.15 million nits for red, green, and blue, respectively. It also has very small pixels (4 ?m pixel pitch) equivalent to >6000 ppi
The company says the JBD4UM480P is designed for near-to-eye and projection-based applications such as smart glasses for Information AR, Sports Optics, Holographic sights and the AR goggles market for sports enthusiasts and athletes.
Dr Li previously told DSCC that production capacity for the 0.13” display was 250K panels per month, and that capacity would double by the end of 2021 and reach 2M panels per month by 2023. He also indicated that in 3 years they would double the resolution while keeping the same 0.13” diagonal.
What We Think
I spoke to Aledia this week and plan a Display Daily on the topic of this kind of microdisplay in the next day or two. (BR)
