What They Say
TrendForce said that after a weak year already, the shipment of notebook LCD panels in Q3 2022 will be down 13.4% QoQ to 45.1 million, down from 49.9 million in 2019, the last Q3 before the pandemic.
TrendForce further indicates notebook panel shipments came in at 15.6 million units in July, a decrease of 34.8% YoY, and also lower than the 16.3 million units shipped in July 2019 before the pandemic. Monitor panel shipments amounted to 11.7 million units in July this year, a decrease of 16.3% YoY, which was also lower than the 11.8 million units in July 2019, indicating that the present wave of client inventory adjustments is quite dramatic.
There is little chance of a big change as channels and brands look to limit or reduce inventory and the firm forecasts Q4 2022 as down to approximately 40.8 million units, down 45.6% YoY and 9.4% QoQ. Monitor panel shipments are estimated at roughly 29 million units, down 40.4% YoY and 7.2% QoQ.
What We Think
No real surprise here except, perhaps the scale of the drop from 2019 – still the charts really highlight that the channels are still digesting the Q1 shipments. By my calculation, notebook panel shipments will be 10.7% ahead for 2022 as a whole and monitors will be up 14.7%. (BR)
