Is Gamma Still Needed?: Part 10 – Summary

What They Say

If you were interested in the Display Daily last week on the topic of scene-referred video (Poynton Defines “Scene Referred” Video), you will probably be interested in an article in ‘the Broadcastbridge’ that goes into the question of whether using gamma is a good way to store and process video. The author compares, among other things, how audio, in going digital was able to ‘build in’ some expandability, while digital video did not have much headroom, making HDR and other video improvements more difficult than they might have been.

What We Think

finding this article opened up links to previous articles in the series, including an interesting one on HDR formats. (BR)
