German broadcast technology institute IRT is planning a 28-month research project, examining the suitability of the new 5G mobile network standard for the large-scale transmission of TV channels.
The project is a collaboration between Kathrein, Rohde & Schwarz, Telefónica Deutschland and Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk. The first transmissions are scheduled to begin at the end of 2018.
