iPhone 7 Plus Survives 13 Hours in Russian Icy River

Apple

Apple’s iPhone 7 is only officially classified as surviving immersion at a depth of one metre (3.3 feet) for 30 minutes. However, an incident occured during an ice fishing trip in Russia that showed the device could survive after 13 hours in freezing 4°C/39°F water. This suggests that the device offers more environmental protection than its IP67 rating would suggest. According to the Russian language publication ykt.ru a fisherman dropped his iPhone 7 Plus into an ice fishing hole in the city of Yakutsk. Unable to retrieve the device, it was left in the water overnight, until the next day a diver was able to retrieve the device. The retrieved phone was fully operational and the battery charge had only dropped from 35% to 19%.
