iPad Mini 6 Having Jelly Scroll Issues

What They Say

Some iPad Mini 6 owners have been complaining that there is what is being called a ‘jelly scroll’ effect as the display ‘appears to jiggle’ when you scroll down a page with the tablet positioned vertically.

There is a slow motion video showing the effect here. Ars Technica said that Apple responded by saying that this is normal behaviour for an LCD, so there is no plan for a ‘fix’.

What We Think

Of course, in landscape mode, the driving will be line by line, so there is no delay between the different sides, but when the panel is rotated, each line will be refreshed incrementally. It’s the kind of issue that might be apparent for years, without anyone noticing it, but once you do, it can become irritating. Ars Technica, for example, said that it didn’t spot the issue in its review sample, but did when it checked again. Of course, as Apple promotes its 120Hz smooth scrolling on its OLEDs, the difference between those and this kind of LCD will become more obvious. (BR)
