Intel Working on USB Digital Audio

We have already seen the first smartphone with a USB-C port instead of a headphone jack, from LeEco (LeEco Beats Apple…But Why?). There are also rumours that Apple will replace the port in its next iPhone, later this year – although it is likely to be (another – TA) proprietary implementation. Intel wants to speed the process, however, and is finalising a specification for USB-C Digital Audio technology. The spec will be released in Q2, says Anandtech (http://tinyurl.com/jtmzy7t). Some of the features would include headsets that could perform their own audio processing (although they would require an additional chip) and support for HDCP.
