InFocus Highlights LightCast Technology

InFocus, with backing from Foxconn, has been re-positioning itself as a supplier of collaboration products rather than a simple hardware supplier. At Infocomm, the company started by showing us its Saturn system which combines a video wall with high end video conferencing and collaboration. The system can support 1×3, 2×2, 3×3, 3×4 and 3×5 display configurations and allow a mixture of video, video conferencing and data sharing.
The company was showing a 3 x 3 array based on its 47″ video wall display.

Next we looked at MondoPad 2.0. MondoPad is the InFocus (57″/70″ & 80″) product series which are fully integrated collaboration systems (think Surface Hub – although InFocus was there a long time before Microsoft!). The software update allows a single MondoPad to be connected to a second display to support dual screen operation in a “Master/Slave” configuration. Apps can be operated and shared via either display.

TI oscarTI was lending out its technical Oscar at the show. InFocus was a DLP pioneerAlso being demonstrated was the InFocus LightCast technology which is available on its projectors (across the range over time) and also on the 65″ JTouch Whiteboard. This wireless technology can operate with AirPlay (Apple) and Miracast (Android) devices as well as supporting InFocus’ own protocol. The technology allows bidirectional control of connected devices – with the big display controlling connected devices or vice versa. Communication is secure and at the end of a session, all connections can be easily cleared so that connections are securely defined for each session.

The JTouch board has a LightCast option and will also be available later in a wider range of sizes. It has an integrated browser, but is a lower cost/function option than the MondoPad.

Although staff didn’t highlight it to us, we found that the company was previewing a new projector for education, the IN119HDx projector. It costs less than $700 and features 3200-lumen brightness and 15,000:1 contrast ratio. The IN119HDx offers 1080p HD resolution, can project an image size of up to 299″ (nearly 25-feet diagonal), it is 3D ready and features VGA and HDMI inputs.

The IN128HDs is a color-correct SRGB projector intended for video applications and designers, was previewed.
