Although consumer tablet buying fell 13.8% QoQ and 26.8% YoY in Q2, due to the introduction of the Goods and Service Tax, healthy growth in the commercial sector contributed to a 2.9% rise to give total shipments of 722,000. Government and education are the main forces driving commercial growth.
Lenovo’s shipments grew 12.6% QoQ and it took over the top spot with 21.8% market share. 80% of its shipments were for government, education or large enterprises. Samsung fell to second while its shipments remained stable as it improved its commercial shipments. These two were followed by Datawind, iBall and Apple. Datawind remains the leader in the sub $50 market and iBall is trying to increase its share of the commercial market.
