Indian Tablet Market Sees Dip

The Indian tablet market saw a 18.6% YoY drop in Q1, with 701,000 units shipped during the period, according to IDC. The consumer segment was the worst hit, with a fall of 28% YoY, with commercial sales, including education, providing a third of all shipments. 35% of tablets were sold online.

By company, Samsung came out on top, with the Galaxy J Max the best selling model and the company seeing growth in commercial sales. Datawind was second, but its quarterly shipments were down 39% YoY. Lenovo, iBall and Apple made up the rest of the top five.

39% of the Q1 market was for tablets with 4G connection. By size 7-7.9″ tablets accounted for 70% of the total market, but this was down. 8-8.9″ tablets were up to 12.3%, and 10″+ saw a 43% YoY rise to take 11.6%.
