What They Say
Automotive supplier Continental has shown a ‘disguised’ display with a miniLED-backlit LCD behind a special film (which can resemble wood, leather or carbon fibre, for example). The ShyTech Display disappears when not in use and has low glare and reflections. The technology could launch in 2023, the firm said.
Those that attended a small event where the technology was shown said that it was ‘not as sharp as an iPhone’ but looked good.
What We Think
We’re planning a deeper dive into this topic, but it looks an interesting one. Of course, in the past, LCDs have been rigid glass rectangles, but we have reported on work by Merck and Flexenable to develop flexible LCDs. (BR)
