Iljin Display eyes turnaround from notebook and MiniLED

What They Say

In reporting on new funding for Iljin Tech, to help the firm turn around its business, The Elec said that the company seems to be banking on Samsung Electronics using its metal mesh touch technology in notebook displays. From a peak at 221.5 billion Won ($202 million) in 2017 the firm saw its revenues drop to 80.1 billion Won in 2019 ($87 million) as 80% of its revenue came from touch panels and Samsung shifted to in-cell touch. The company is also investing in making sapphire ingots and wafers to support the development of the miniLED market. Iljin is reported to have Epistar of Taiwan as a customer for its sapphire products.

What We Think

I need to try to check out if Samsung is likely to use metal mesh touch on notebooks. My understanding was that this technology was used on larger displays, not medium-sized panels. (BR)
