UK-based technology company, Igloo Vision is launching what it believes to be the world’s first 360° 8K monitor at IBC2017 in Amsterdam.
The new monitor, housed inside an Igloo projection dome, allows 360° filmmakers, content creators and developers to work across the entirety of their content without the need to wear VR headsets. It also enables production teams to work collaboratively on immersive content – which means they can easily point out details, see what everyone else is looking at, make eye contact, and read each other’s facial expressions.
To demonstrate the capabilities of the new monitor, Igloo is live-streaming 360° 8K content from across the vast IBC2017 exhibition halls. Footage is captured with a miniEYE™ 360° camera rig. And, by using NewTek NDI plug-in for Adobe Creative Cloud, full-resolution, real-time video is sent with audio and transparency across the network, which eliminates the need to render and upload.
“VR headsets deliver a fantastic immersive experience,” says Igloo founder Colin Yellowley. “But they’re not suited to prolonged use and can get in the way of effective teamwork. An Igloo 360° 8K monitor provides the best of both worlds – an immersive experience in a shared space.”
Igloo Vision, at Stand 8.12, has one of the largest exhibits at the IBC2017 Future Zone showcase. The company will be displaying its 6-metre projection dome. Easy to transport and rig, with fewer health and safety (H&S) considerations than larger structures, it lends itself to pop-up, road-show-type events. Yet, with more than enough space for ten people, it’s ideal for immersive experiences, and never fails to make an impression.
