iFixit is Sniffy about Samsung Upcycling

What They Say

iFixit published an article that was very sniffy (in my UK parlance) about Samsung’s ‘Upcycling’ programme that was announced in 2017, but doesn’t seem to have come to much. To quote the site:

“Friends inside the company told us that leadership wasn’t excited about a project that didn’t have a clear product tie-in or revenue plan.”

What We Think

This is the kind of thing that gets green issues a bad name. Lots of hype, but no real benefit. Re-using old technology can be really rewarding. During lockdown, I got real satisfaction from sorting out old notebooks and PCs that had been hanging around and converting them to Chromebooks for those with children that didn’t have access to technology for online learning.
