What They Say
IEEE Spectrum had an interesting article on the next generation of IC transistors at the next ‘state of the art’ in chip fabrication, which it lists as a 3nm process. The article suggests that this may be the last chance to stick with Moore’s Law, although it might allow it to extend beyond the use of silicon in the transistor channel to be replaced by Gallium Arsenide.
What We Think
At the end of this article, I noticed that it was part of ‘Throwback Thursday’ and was first published in 2019. Nevertheless, I thought it was an interesting description of what is happening in chips. A more recent article explains what Samsung is doing with the concept of nanosheets.

I loved a quote I saw the other day from Peter Lee – VP at Microsoft Research – who said, “there’s a law about Moore’s Law – the number of people predicting the end of Moore’s Law doubles every two years”.
It looks as though this new architecture could see us around a few more turns of the Law! (BR)
