Hypervsn launches new-generation holographic displays

What They Say

Hybervsn, which makes virtual displays based on spinning LEDs, has developed a new model that is larger and lighter, with a 0.65mm pitch and is said to produce 3,000 cd/m² of luminance. The system includes a controller that can be addressed by an HDMI interface. The SmartVdisplay has power consumption of <50W

What We Think

In describing its display as ‘holographic’, Hypervsn conforms to the rule that ‘displays described as holographic never are’ – although that may have to be changed to ‘rarely’, soon. I have been watching the firm’s development for some time and the output has been getting better and better. When I first saw the claim about pitch and brightness, I was surprised. Normally LED displays up to 1mm or so are limited to around 1,000 cd/m² or less, but I guess if you are spinning them round in the air at high speed, the forced cooling helps with the thermal issues that are otherwise a challenge!
