According to the latest report from Strategy Analytics, it’s looking more and more likely that Apple will slide to third position in the smartphone race, being beaten to the number two spot by Chinese manufacturer Huawei.
Samsung is way out in front with 79 million units shipped, but the battle for second is much tighter, with Apple having shipped 41 million versus Huawei’s 38 million in Q2 2017.
Also notable is Apple’s relatively flat growth of 2%, whereas Huawei have enjoyed a 20% boost. Add to this the fact that Apple’s market share dropped 3.1% between Q1 and Q3 this year, it’s not unreasonable to presume that Huawei will claim second place this quarter if trends continue.
Fellow Chinese vendors Oppo and Xiaomi rounded out the top five, lending credence to the claim that Chinese smartphones are increasing in popularity.
