Huawei Announces Global Launch of Four New AMOLED Devices

Huawei has launched two new smartphones and two wearables, all with AMOLED displays. First, the Mate 20 X smartphone features a 7.2″ display with a small notch and HDR10, a resolution of 1080 × 2244, 346 ppi, an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and an 88% screen-to-body ratio.

It runs Android 9, powered by a Kirin 980 chipset, 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, plus up to a further 256GB via micro SD. Its triple-lens primary camera incorporates 40MP, 20MP and 8MP lenses with phase-detection and laser autofocus. In addition, the 8MP telephoto lens adds 5x optical zoom and optical image stablisation.

The handset also packs a 24MP internal camera with HDR and features USB-C connectivity, NFC capabilities, a 5,000mAh battery and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Meanwhile, the Mate 20 Pro runs Android 9.0 and incorporates the same Kirin 980 chipset as the X. It shares many of its other specs too, including HDR10, connectivity, NFC and camera set-up. Where it differs is the smaller display at 6.4″, with a wider notch and a resolution of 1440 × 3120 pixels, 538 ppi and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, with a screen-to-body ratio of 88%. It also comes in a more expensive model with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

A few other points of difference for the Mate 20 Pro are its under-display fingerprint sensor, Face ID and a smaller battery capacity of 4,200mAh.

The Mate 20 X ships globally from October 26th, priced at about $1,040, while the Mate 20 Pro is due to ship worldwide from November 1st, priced from $1,140.

In addition, Huawei also unveiled two new wearables, a smartwatch and a fitness band. The Huawei Watch GT features a 1.39″ 454 × 454 round AMOLED display with 326 ppi, an optical 6-LED heart sensor, NFC and a battery life claim of two weeks of frequent use, thanks to a proprietary power-saving algorithm. The Huawei Band 3 Pro fitness band incorporates a 0.95″ 120 × 240 AMOLED touch screen, a 6-axis acceleration sensor, a heart rate sensor and GPS.

The watch will retail at about $230, while the band will cost around $115. A release date has not yet been confirmed for either of the wearable devices, but they are expected to ship soon.
