HP also announced a Special Edition laptop at the event: these are limited-production models, usually with a theme. In this case, HP has produced the Star Wars Special Edition model!
Under a collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm, the new laptop celebrates the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which will be in cinemas later this year.
Stormtroopers march across the keyboard -which is illuminated with a Sith-inspired red glow – and the touchpad is adorned with an X-Wing HUD graphic. The chassis has a ‘distressed’ look, with Star Wars imagery across the front of the case.
It’s not only externals that are themed around the franchise. An Imperial Cog icon is located on the desktop, which will take users to the Star Wars Command Centre; here, they can browse the laptop’s themes and galleries (more than 1,100 images from 40 years of iStar Wars history). The themes include new sounds, as well, so – for example – Windows notification noises can be replaced with R2-D2’s bleeps, or a lightsaber.
Owning the laptop will also provide users with access to the first Marvel Star Wars comic in the series; eBook excerpts from select franchise titles; and movie trailers. In addition, the classic Star Wars Aurebesh font can be used, and the Recycle Bin icon is replaced with a Death Star!
For specifications, the laptop has a 15.6″ display (1920 x 1080), with optional touch. Core i5 or i7 Skylake processors can be installed. The notebook has up to 12GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, with either integrated (Intel HD Graphics 520) or discrete (Geforce 940M) graphics.
The Star Wars Special Edition laptop will go on sale soon, and can be pre-ordered now for $700.
