HP Leaves Windows for Ubuntu

HP has ditched Windows and decided to produce an Ubuntu laptop, in co-operation with UK-based Ebuyer.com.

Although it doesn’t run Microsoft’s OS, the Probook 255 G3 features LibreOffice, which is compatible with the Windows version. It is also supplied with Mozilla’s Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client.

A 15.6″ display is used, with 1366 x 768 resolution. Ubuntu runs on a quad-core 1.6GHz AMD A4-1500 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8330 Graphics and 4GB of RAM. A 1TB HDD is built in, as well as dual speakers. The laptop features HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 (x2) and RJ45 connections.

Two more models are available, with different processors. The Probook 355 uses an AMD A8 APU (4GB of RAM) and Probook 455 uses an AMD A10 APU (8GB of RAM).

All three notebooks will be available this month. Prices will be £165 ($255) (Probook 255) and £210 ($325) (Probook 355), ex VAT; a price has not been announced for the Probook 455.
