HP Aims at the Style-Conscious Rich

HP held the launch of its latest laptops not at a technology show, but at a showcase for luxury products in Versailles (HP Drops HDMI and Disc Drive for Thinnest Laptop). The choice highlights HP’s positioning of its Spectre laptop as a fashion item – as do the two limited edition models launched alongside it. As well as the conventional Spectre, the two designs make heavy use of 18k gold: either as accents, in the HP Spectre by Tord Boontje, or plated across the top and bottom of the device, as in the HP Spectre by J. Hannah. This second model also uses diamonds on the HP logo and power button.
