A new twist has been added to the long-running rumours of Hon Hai (Foxconn) buying Sharp’s LCD panel business (these began in 2012 and fell through in 2013, when Sharp balked at giving up too much control (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 13) – TA). Now, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper claims that Hon Hai, aka Foxconn, is to seek funding from Apple to facilitate the deal.
Sharp told Reuters that it could not comment, but said that it was, “considering various options for the restructuring of the LCD business”.
